Christian Patterson (he/him) is a multidisciplinary artist and photographer currently living and working in New York City. His visually layered work often deals with themes of the archive, authorship, memory, place, and time. Photographs are the heart of Patterson's work, which includes drawings, paintings, objects, video, and sound.
Patterson is the author of three books and is a 2013 Guggenheim Fellow, winner of the 2015 Grand Prix Images Vevey, and the 2022 New York Public Library Picture Collection Artist Fellow. His work is in the collections of several institutions, including the National Gallery of Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, J. Paul Getty Museum, Milwaukee Art Museum, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, and New Orleans Museum of Art. He has lectured, mentored, and taught widely. Patterson is currently represented by Rose Gallery and Robert Morat Galerie.
